Our Thanksgiving Dinner
When I was really young, I always wanted to have Thanksgiving like the average American family — with turkey and mashed potatoes and all that. But since my parents were still new to the country and its customs, we didn’t really celebrate Thanksgiving at all. When I was little bit older, I beseeched my mom to please, please, please make turkey. So for a few years, we had turkey. But in more recent years, I realized that I really didn’t like turkey at all (too dry), and no one else in my family did either! I realized that it wasn’t the turkey I wanted but the aspect of American family life that I had observed on television (on shows like Full House or the Cosby Show) — the talking to each other openly, the laughing and joking around, the special family time. And I realized that it’s possible to have the tradition without that closeness or have that connection without the tradition. So now every year when my mom asks me what I want to have for Thanksgiving, I give her a different answer…
This year we had barbecue!
Afterwards, Sam, Joshie, my mom, sister and I sat on the sofa and just hung out. What did you have for Thanksgiving?

how cute! i love the picture of your family… i’m guessing Dad took that?
by the way i make an awesome turkey, not dry at all… i’ll make it for you one day (but no i did not make a turkey this year)
Chinese restaurant!
My mom’s side of the family is not too keen on cooking.
My dad’s side loves to cook, but everyone except us went out of town this year.
i like the hanging out with the two computers. hahaha.
hot pot at home! Whooo!
That food looks delectable! I spent Thanksgiving in Chicago with family; we had a kosher turkey (b/c it was pre-brined) and tofurky for the vegetarians in the family, plus “traditional” sides. I think I may be the only one who really likes turkey in my family tho.
