  • Creed – I believe!

While studying tonight, I somehow got a Rich Mullins song in my head, so I pulled out the old dusty Songs CD and was very, very struck by a different song, “Creed”.  The song is based on the Apostle’s Creed, almost word for word.  And as I listened to the words, it touched me so deeply I wanted to cry and yet filled me with such joy, I wanted to sing aloud at the same time!  Here are the words of the Apostle’s Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
    born of the virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
    He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
    He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the holy Christian Church,

    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and the life everlasting. Amen.

I believe in a life that never ends.  I believe what I believe, it’s what makes me what I am.  I did not make it, no, it is making me.  I did not make it, no, it is making me… It is the very truth of God, not the invention of any man.  I believe it, I believe.
