  • Clean hands

Question:  “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?  Who may stand in His holy place?”

Answer:  “Those who have clean hands and a pure heart.”

I don’t think I have clean hands or a pure heart.  I know the reason is very connected to the next line of the verse:

” …(those) who do not put their trust in an idol or swear by a false god.”  (Psalm 24)

My ‘worship’ of the idol of my flesh keeps me from having clean hands and a pure heart — keeps me from making choices that draw me nearer to God.  For when I choose to honor my flesh, I am choosing to distance myself from God.  I can’t stand in His holy place because I am not choosing to go there.  But I want to.
