  • Happy Squiggers!

We named her Squiggers.  She's a piggie that squeaks a lot.  And though Squeakers might've been a fitting name, it wasn't unique enough for me, and I really wanted to call her Scribbles for no real reason at all except that I'm a scribe and I think in terms of scribbles all the time.  But when we jumbled all those words together, somehow we got Squiggers.  [Of course, her coat reminded SamK of a beagle and both SamK and SamD of Neapolitan ice cream, but it reminds me of Rocky Road ice cream (the dark brown is the chocolate chip, the light brown is the chocolate ice cream and the white is the marshmello) -- but it seems more fitting to christen a creature after personality rather than looks, don'tcha think?  She scribbles and squiggles and squeaks and squiggers...

She's becoming quite the charmer.  However, the first few days were haaard.  Squiggers spent most of the time hiding and sitting in a corner, and that made me worried, since guinea pigs are supposed to play, not just sit in one spot all day!  She also had this skittish habit of always dashing away when we came near or made any loud noises.  She seemed overall nervous, scared and depressed the whole week.  But a few hours ago, we had a breakthrough.  For the first time ever, she popcorned.  In the guinea pig world, to popcorn is the same as jumping for joy.  Click on the video below and watch.  It's funny!:

  • what a happy beginning! :)

  • awww how cute. she's all over the place!

  • so so cute and so so fun, new creatures always take some adaptation time - has she made that chirruping noise? (i used to be able to do a pretty good impression of it, but i forget exactly how it goes now, only remember that it is really adorable) is that what you call squeaking?

  • it took a loooooooong time for chortle to settle down and become the amazingly animated and unique creature that she became. that's why i didn't like her the first few weeks i had her, she was skittish, antisocial, and hid out. totally normal.

now the fun begins. just get her to learn how to not pee in people's laps and you're golden.

  • aww..too cute! she can pee in my lap...i've been peed on so many times by all sorts of things! hehe..

  • i love the name squiggers! so cute!
