  • random twos

Two Saturdays ago, we were rudely awakened at two in the morning by the sound of rushing water -- coming from the ceiling of our spare bedroom.  Yikeso!  It turns out that the toilet in the upstairs condo had been leaking for five hours, and the upstairs level could no longer hold the water, so down it all came, flooding our carpet and wrecking our ceiling.  Since then, we have had someone in our house everyday for the last couple of days for all hours of the day (ok, from 8-5) tearing our house apart in order to put it back together.  It's been an invasion of privacy that has slowly become taxing to me, but I am being reminded that 'privacy' is a western ideology, and when we are overseas in the future, our lives might always feel 'disrupted' in this way.  How I need to be constantly reminded that the way of life here is just not the way of life everywhere.

Two days ago, Sam had to go away for a work-trip again.  It was his third trip since we've been married, and it's the most tragical thing ever when we have to be separated.  I never thought I'd become one of those weak-sauce women who gets all wistful when she's apart from her husband, but here I am -- Melancholy Wife whenever he's gone.  I guess I underestimated what it means to be one flesh.

Two minutes ago, I was finishing off the ninth thank you card of the day.  We've been married for two months and twenty-seven days now, and we are still very slowly plodding along in writing thank you cards for all our friends and family.  We really are so thankful, and that motivates us to handwrite each of these notes; it's worth it to us, but really, it takes so long.

In two minutes, we are going to have dinner.  I bought the ingredients for "Vietnamese sandwiches" and tonight, we are going to make them for the very first time.  Yay.  :)

  • YUM! Vietnamese sandwiches are sooo delicious. And, yes, being away from the husband is very difficult. I work nights so every week there are two very "tragical" moments. :(

I can also empathize with the water situation. It happened to me twice (in two different apts)... it's such a mess to clean.

Hang in there and keep blogging! Love reading your stuff.

  • dang, that ceiling leaking thing happened in college- except our apartment leaked into the downstairs one, and then this past year my grandma's apartment leaked into her downstairs neighbor. they had to totally take apart my grandma's condo it seemed.

ha ha, and that is SO like life overseas!

also, i wonder if it is worse for the left than the leaver. i have left trevor alone several times since we've been married but i've never been left "home alone" and i think he has always felt worse than me. i wonder.

  • what a great post! I don't know why, but i loved it. the theme of twos....so arbitrary and yet so awesome.

sorry to hear about your ceiling - hope it's fixed ASAP!

  • wee! what a fun post :) sorry to hear about the ceiling! but good perspective :) melancholy wife.. that is cute :)

  • yikes!! that's really bad ... toilet water ... good thing we have good toilet water standards in the states. yeah, we witnessed the same type of demolition here at the b-pad when we had the great flood. hope that this cleanup has been getting done fast.
