  • Wedding Week Begins…

My relatives have come in from Canada.  Sam’s family from Texas.  I’m starting to feel the hustle and bustle of a wedding.  Something so joyous about having family all around — I love them! — even if it was 2 years ago since I last saw many of my Canadian relatives.  I love my mom’s parents.  When they got here, my grandpa gave me a kiss on the forehead and my grandma gave me a hug.  If you know anything about traditional overseas born Asians, you’d know how ‘strange’ that is culturally — but somehow, they overflow with affection for this grandaughter they hardly ever see. :)   We had a rapid dinner tonight — it’s amazing what four Vietnamese women in a kitchen can whip together and how quickly the cleaning occurs.  …

I’m feeling much better from yesterday — my head’s still hazy, my cough’s still here and my nose is still runny — but at least I’m not bedridden.  Hopefully, I can finish the last couple of wedding stuff and go to sleep early tonight.  I feel like I haven’t slept in days and days…

Tomorrow, we are having the Vietnamese ceremony.  Sam’s family (though Chinese, are willing to follow Vietnamese customs) will come bringing gifts on special wedding trays and our family will receive them.  They’ll be slightly outnumbered since my Canadian relatives number about 11 and my San Diego relatives number around 17 — and let’s not forget my mom, dad, sister and nephew.  Talk about full house.  I’ll be wearing a traditional red “ao dai“, and Sam & I will be serving wine to all the relatives.  I’ll have new people I will be calling “mom” and “dad” by this time tomorrow.  So, in a way… I’ll be “married” tomorrow night… :)   Fathom that. :)

Thanks for your prayers everyone! :)
