Changes
Yesterday two major things happened: all of my belongings were moved out of my parent’s house — and into the new condo. When the room I had been occupying stood empty, Sam asked me, “How are you feeling? I mean, this is the last time you’re moving out of your parents house…” The other week, my dad had said, “And soon, Mary Ann will be moving out of the house forever.” And last night, just as I walked out the door, my mom was saying to Joshua, “(Say) bye-bye to Auntie.” Joshie said, “Where’s she going?” My mom said, “She doesn’t live here anymore.” That just about killed me. Such finality. There will be visits, but life as I know it will never be the same again. I am so glad that God chose that I could have the last nine months at my parent’s house. What a special gift! I had been away for several years, and it was so sweet to be home again. And though Sam & I will be making a new home soon, my parents’ house will always be home to me still.
Around 11 am yesterday, Sam & I went to the county clerk and got our marriage license. We can get married now!
Shortly after that, we went to look for some mattresses and started talking about how we don’t even know what each others’ rooms look like (we made it a rule never to spend time or even enter each other’s rooms), and now we’re going to share a room??
The other day, Sam had another conversation with his coworker about getting married soon:
Sam: Yeah, it’s gonna be an adjustment.
CW1: What do you mean — aren’t you already living together?
Sam: Uh…No.
CW1: So you’re traditional, huh?
Sam: Well….it’s not for just for the sake of tradition…
CW2: Sam is a good boy.
Meanwhile… at the county clerk’s office, I heard the following conversation in the desk adjacent to us:
Groom: Is that it, then?
[must've been some head-nodding]
Groom: Great! So now we don’t have to live in sin anymore!! (he was “joking” btw)
[oh my! what kind of comment is that? it was so funny and not at the same time!]
I’m so glad that we waited to do everything in the right order. So, soo, sooo glad. Ten days to go!!
