Hearing God in the Old Testament
I love the Old Testament. I love how reading about God during those times gives me a fuller understanding of who He is. Sometimes, I confess, I love it more than the New Testament. But, still, it’s not always easy. Sometimes I get so caught up in the storyline that I forget to step back and receive it in the awe that it is Scripture rather than just storyline. Today, I was reminded of Five Questions which God helped me develop a few years ago which aided my ability to hear God in the OT.
The Five Questions
*Read over the passage and then go back over the passage asking the Lord The Five Questions. Write down your answers.*
1. Lord, what are You like? (Look for the attributes of God in the way He interacts with His people in the passage, in what He allows to happen, in the commands and the names which He goes by, etc.)
2. Lord, what are You saying? (Summarize the main point of the passage. Write down what is being said.)
3. Lord, what do You mean? (Now take what is being said and ask the Lord what He means for your life. Ask Him to specify what the message is for you personally.)
4. Lord, are You right? (It’s one thing to know what the Lord is saying or to generally acknowledge that God’s always right, but it’s another thing to pause and decide for yourself about a specific thing, “Is He right?”)
5. Do I agree with it? What will I do about it? (The first question helps you affirm your belief. Whether you agree or disagree with what He said to you, the second question still applies. The second question takes you directly to application. Try to be specific so that you can actually check up on it.)

I read your story about how you met Sam, and it was very nice. It’s nice to get an affirmtion of God’s Will every now and again. Thanks for sharing it.
Have a good one~
Could you qualify what exactly you mean with “Do I agree with it? ” I’m curious as to what specifically you would be agreeing or disagreeing about. Thanks.
