Daniel and Cindy
…are getting married tomorrow!
My first memory of Daniel is of him playing, “Love the Lord Your God With All Your Heart…” on his guitar while singing his heart out one night after youth group – eons ago. I think the picture of him singing at the top of his lungs while everyone else was running around the room making a lot of noise is a pretty good represtation of Daniel. I’ve always loved Daniel’s way of challenging the status quo. Daniel loves debate. And over the years, he has been one of my biggest challengers — especially when I make sweeping, broad generalizations and biased, unfair categoric conclusions. And despite the fact that we don’t agree about everything, I’ve been very grateful for his love of verbal sparring and debate because it has sharpened my thinking and my stance on things. Daniel has amazing insight and wisdom and is a great communicator – in writing as well as in teaching/preaching. Those of us who have had the privilege to hear Daniel teach God’s Word have totally been blessed!
I was one of the first to meet Cindy when she moved down to San Diego. Our mutual friend Alvin introduced us… so on that first day, SamDeck and I took Cindy and Pam Seto around Seaport Village. They were living pretty near us in La Jolla, so the four of us plus Tomoko started an accountability group. I loved Cindy right from the start. She has this spunky personality which is not usually daunted by difficult or challenging circumstances. She has the ability to take things as they come with ease. And for an angst-ridden NF like me, I have always found her company to be such a relief. She is fun to be around and, truly, the best roommate I’ve ever had! I’m so thankful for those days living together with her and her prayers and counsel for me during some of my valley moments.
Daniel and Cindy met somewhere along the way when she first arrived in San Diego. We were all worshipping at CBC at that time (weren’t we?) and often hung out together. SamDeck and I noticed the possibility of “Daniel AND Cindy” pretty early on in the game. In fact, SamDeck and I started praying together that God would bring them together! And as more time passed, it became more and more apparent that not only did they seem to have chemistry from an outsider’s point of view, but they really did dig each other!
Everyone I know loves the idea of Cindy & Daniel. The two of them are soo great together. They are amazing people individually — and they are even more amazing people when together. It’s not only that I think God will use them in tremendous ways in their giftings of teaching/preaching, forthwith counseling and insight-giving… but also because they are so much fun to be around and know how to enjoy their blessings from God to the fullest. God really “richly provides us with everything for out enjoyment” (1 Timothy 6:17b) — and the two of them have shown me and the rest of our community what that really means… and in that, they glorify God, edify and encourage us all. I love it! – and them.
Congratulations to Daniel & Cindy. I’m so glad God brought you two together!
