  • this was a private xanga entry i wrote last year … right around the time when i was becoming acquainted with the one who fits this list almost perfectly…

    the impossible ideals list
    mar 23, 2005

i just found this “list” i wrote on Sept 11, 2002. i remember that a whole bunch of people decried my list in 2002, and so i chucked it.  it seemed too idealistic and impossible to everyone.  reading it today, i realize that (three years later) this is still my list!  as impossible as it seems, it really is still my list.  these are still my heart’s desires.  the only thing i would add is to the “superficial” list – that he’d appreciate vietnamese culture and cooking.  =)

    uncompromisable ideals
    - has heard “the call” & answered with a “Send me!”
    - knows the cost of discipleship & is willing to pay it (suffer for Christ)
    - has died to self (no concerns about self, no living by the pleasure principle; i.e. someone who is obsessed about sports or watches too much TV/movies, etc, does not have similar priorities)
    - a man of integrity, driven by convictions from the Lord
    - doesn’t just follow Christian culture, but Biblical standards
    - is open to different things (i.e. will try new cultures, languages, foods, etc)
    - chooses me

superficial niceties that i’d like – but God can persuade me over
    - likes to read!!!
    - is an N (if he’s an S, then at least he must be an F; if he’s a T, must be a soft T); balanced E vs. I.
    - handyman (can fix things!!)
    - can talk to my dad
    - knows a lot about computers & technological things
    - has some kind of creative outlet (guitar, writing, art, etc)
    - likes memorizing verses ;)
    - has Christian parents (for my parents’ sake)
    - has Nav training or Nav mindset

moral to the story… don’t settle!  God wants to meet your deepest heart’s desires… just bring them before Him.  :)

  • Lovely!  That’s so encouraging to read.  You two are really blessed with each other!

  • One “superficial nicety” that you didn’t realize you would be getting is:
    - is Southern Baptist…

jk jk. I do admire your relationship, though. Praise God!

  • mary ann, sorry i didn’t get your message. email me at brendajung@gmail.com

  • yep, amen!  praise!

  • dude, whats wrong with being obsessed by sports? hehehehe.

  • WOW, from my side of it, it’s amazing that He has brought me into your life (just like He’s brought you to me).  to me, things like playing guitar and having knowledge of computers doesn’t seem very special… but who knew that God would use these things to be answered prayer to someone else?

Thanks, God!!  He really is the great Matchmaker.  =)

  • hello! i have a question… you said don’t settle. i definitely agree when it comes to the non-negotiables. but what about the “superficial niceties”?

it’s awesome how sam fits every item on the list, but do you think your case is an exception rather than the rule? as in, very few people find the “perfect” match?

i’ve heard advice that singles should come up with a short list of non-negotiables, and put everything else on the alter of sacrifice… what do you think?

  • oh wow, how funny, i totally put up a list without seeing your list first!! oh us idealists… =)

  • hey, just reading up on your site…. awesome story! i subscribed =)

  • i had a list, too

  • Nice! Definitely don’t compromise.

    I’m stuck between a rock & a hard place w/ Carol. *sigh*

    In His grace,
    Vic.
