  • Vision for the Year

Last year, I wrote this about the importance of praying and asking God for vision.  When 2005 started, it didn’t seem like God was giving me new vision, so I waited.  This morning I realized that He’s been developing a theme for this year for me since mid-January.  It should be no big surprise if you’ve been following my xanga.  =)

A life lived out for the Lord Jesus Christ is one of faith, not fear.  It is one of fighting – mostly on one’s knees.  It is one of forgetting self and flesh.  It is one of following His steps.

    Vision 2002:  Living for Jesus.
Theme:  Fear God, withhold nothing.  (Gen 22).
    a)  Cherish nothing above the Lord.
    b)  Fear nothing more than the Lord.
Result:  A year of putting aside all my idols and fears and learning how to love Jesus most and best.

Vision 2003:  Stepping out in Faith
    Theme:  Faith, not fear.
Josh 1:5, 9; Ps 118:6 and JG Whittier quote (“Nothing before, nothing behind.  The steps of faith fall on the seeming void and find solid rock beneath.”)
Result:  A year of taking radical steps of faith into the unknown (quitting my oh-so secure full-time job to wait on God).

    Vision 2004:  Following Jesus’ Steps
Theme:  Choose Your Own Adventure (Take Risks in Obedience to Jesus)
Luke 14:25-33, Luke 9:23, John 12:24  (I’m looking for an adventure!)
Result:  Lived out some dreams (short term mission to China), moved away from family, friends and field, experienced the joy and pain of being Christ’s disciple.

Vision 2005:  Fighting on My Knees
Theme:  Be in the right place at the right time doing the right thing.
    Genesis 24 and 39-41

May this be a year of prayer and a year of always looking to Christ to make sure I’m in the right place at the right time doing the right thing.  And may His favor rest upon me as I seek to serve Him with everything I am.  Amen.

  • Wow! I wish I was as disciplined as you so I could journal my thoughts and stuff. It is one thing to come up with a vision, it is another thing to track the progress of it! Great job with that. God bless.
