  • a church for now

this morning i went to menlo park pres church.  seriously, i went just because i had borrowed a book from their library about 2 1/2 months ago, when i visited the first time, and i needed to return the book.  but i stayed for the “11:05 cafe service” and subsequently have decided that i will keep coming back.

mppc is a really rich church.   that is actually not one of the pro’s of the church, for me.  but what i do like about the church is that it is 15 minutes from my house (just go on el camino, whoot!), they have a good-sized library, the teaching by john ortberg is pretty good, and the worship music at the 11:05 cafe is totally my heart-music.  the only thing wanting is that whole aspect of “friends”.  but hopefully, God will be providing in that category…  i’ll keep you posted on how it goes at this church.

  • =)…the teaching IS good.

  • glad that you’ve decided on a church! i’m reading john ortberg’s book, _the life you’ve always wanted_ .. and it’s awesome!

  • No WAY!!! I was there this morning too and I thought about calling you cuz I was in the area.  But I didn’t.  Anyways, I’m leaving the bay monday morning, so guess I missed you.  cool beans on the heart music.

  • yay! soo glad to hear that you may be settling down somewhere. :)

  • wow! i went to mppc for a while during college, and am excited that you are settling in there now… what is a good example of mary ann’s heart music? :)

  • if you want to know what my heart music is, you’ll have to come to the 11:05 cafe with me. :)

  • ooh i want to go to the 11:05 cafe with you sometime. i don’t think i’ve even heard of it. wow mary ann, just a day after i asked you if you’d decided on a church yet (i thought u were going to pbc yesterday.. maybe i was mistaken)

  • i’m so jealous! ortberg is one of my favorite authors!

  • IMHO, a really rich church isn’t a bad thing for a church, as long as the church is not rich for its own sake.  I go to a pretty big, rich church myself, but I am not really concerned, because I can see how much they’re doing with their money, and how diverse their community is.
