  • Godly Insights from Hugh & Crickett:

As you are trying to make choices for this summer, seek to do what builds a foundation for what God is already doing and where God is leading you.  Look to the past and see where He has been leading you so far.  What is the groundwork He has already laid?  Now build on top of that as more foundation for the next steps.

When it comes to making decisions – whether it be about marriage or missions – seeking God’s will is the same.  Perhaps you have heard of some formulas for discovering God’s will, but the formula always comes down to your walk with Jesus.  Your walk with Him will be the guiding point for knowing His will.

When you are dating someone, you think that it is something that is only between you and them, but it’s not.  There’s a great cloud of witnesses.  Your witnesses are:

    1. the believers who are around you now.  They will watch to see how you, a person who knows Jesus, walks through this process.  You will be an example – like it or not.

    2.  your future children.  One day you will be giving them counsel about dating and courtship.  You will be using your story as an example.  What’s the example you want them to hear?

    3.  your future disciplees.  They, too, will be seeking to know how it is done.  So do it well.

    4.  the world, at large.  Even nonChristians who have different values will be watching you to see how you did it… and if it works, what did you do different?

This last counsel about relationships reminded me of something I had said earlier:  the choices you make today become the story that you are writing for tomorrow.  Interesting thoughts.
