  • Meeting-with-Mentors Marathon

I want to stand under the shelter of wisdom.

The past week and half I have been meeting up with various mentors in my life:  Pastor Lam, Pastor Nelson, Auntie Anna, Hugh & Crickett, and this Friday will be Larry & Brenda.  Some of these mentors have known me for years while others I have only known within the last few months.  And yet all of them have been a source of honest words, profound wisdom and challenging counsel.  God uses them to confirm and to lead, to keep me steady and move me in line with His will and His righteousness.  He also uses them to remind me of His tender, parental heart of love and compassion.

I acquired a lot of these mentors very intentionally.  When you see a veteran of the faith who seems to shpewl off wisdom, all you want to do, really, is to hover around them.  And that’s what I would do.  From casual run-ins to curious questions, I’d get a bit of wisdom out of them here and there.  Eventually, I would ask them if I could meet up with them to ask them about such-and-such… and before they knew it, they were my mentors!  :)

Well, it didn’t all happen exactly like that, but it was something to that effect.  Hugh and Crickett are the latest addition to my mentors-list.  Last fall, I had felt so encouraged when I had heard their testimony about how God led them to take their whole family (5 kids!) to China as missionaries, that I started praying that God would give me an opportunity to learn from them.  I started hovering around them, asking them questions… and finally, I got a chance to meet with them yesterday.  God really used them to confirm many things for me and to veer me down the right path.
