  • Life on the Slow Lane

I'm currently at my parent's house still, sleeping in the closet (after the kids moved out, my dad turned one of the rooms into a large walk-in closet; he's pitched a mattress on the floor in which I have made my sick-bed), and doing absolutely nothing otherwise.  I am generally dizzy, feel like I've gotta throw up, but forcing myself to sit here and write a xanga. :)

Since I've been sick, I've read Ezra, Nehemiah and am almost done with Daniel.  Can we say that the Bible is the best book ever???!!  It's absolutely fascinating.  It's the number one bestseller in the whole world, but, sad to say, the #1 best-kept-secret as well.  The average joe doesn't know what he's missing because he's missing out on the Bible.  I mean there's everything in this book:  war, blood and gore, love, romance, seductions, adultery, fornication, poetry, songs, prophesies, heroes you want to follow, truth you can bet your life on, promises that will give you hope and, best of all, salvation.

Anyway, Shannon's got me on a quest to answer all her questions about Bible history and end times.  I feel challenged because it's been a long time since I haven't been able to answer someone's questions about the Bible.  So I'm in search for the answers.  The most recent fascinating fact I found:  Did you know that the temple was built in the same spot as where Abraham almost sacrificed Isaac?  (Mount Moriah)  That's pretty crazy!  :)

Anyway, I'm really excited too because Candy asked if I would share at next Friday's NavNite about the Cost of Discipleship, so I've been thinking about that too... =)

  • ooh! ooh! i knew that mary ann! i learned it from church up here! during this one really long sermon.. actually it was 2 sermons.. abt the temple.. yup yup it's built on a mountain with the tip inside the temple.. which is now a mosque tho :0(

  • The passages are Gen 22:2 and 2 Chronicles 3:1.  Nick is right in that we don't know that the temple was built in the same exact spot, but it was in the region of Mount Moriah on one of the mountains that Abe was instructed to go, and the temple was in a place called Mt. Moriah.  The commentary I read suspects that there's only one "real" mount there, so that must be the one.  But this is all speculation.  In any case, I think it's fascinating that God should make use of the same holy ground. :)
