  • More Questions

Most of the times, when something adverse occurs that is out of my control, it’s usually easy for me to accept it and say, “Well, it was God’s will” and know that God had good purposes for it and will make good out of it.  For example, I can say that about Steve’s death — even though I also want to ask “why?” at the same time.

But what happens when the adverse thing is a result of sin?  Someone experiences trials and difficulty as a consequence (even punishment!) for their wrongdoing.  Now in the midst of these difficult experiences, they cry out to God.  In that case, I struggle.  Since it wasn’t “God’s will” (or desire for it to happen), I’m stuck with the question, will He make good come of it?

I know Romans 8:28 — so if they love Him and repent, He will make good of it.  But if they don’t?  What happens then…?

  • To your first question: Yes.

God never intended for bad things to happen, but they do happen.  Most of our trials, difficulties, pain and suffering that we experience in life are either a consequence of our own sins or a consequence of someone else’s sins thus making us the victim of it.    He will always make good out of it, but whether he’ll make good out of it for a specific person, it depends on their heart, like what you quote on Romans 8:28.  If they don’t repent, and they don’t love him, what does that make them?  he/she is a sinner, but without grace.  Without grace = face your own consequence of sin.  God can still make good come out of it, but it might not be for that person who’s not willing to repent, but for those whom he has harmed.
