  • Femininity & Identity.

God has made man & woman different.  That's obvious.  And He has made ME to be distinctively female.  I would be untrue to my calling if I shirked this distinction.  In fact, I think it would be wrong if I chose not to be what He created me to be.  Being female is my identity, in a sense.

So the question is what does it truly mean to be feminine?  Does it mean wearing flowy blouses and skirts all the time?  Does it include the outward appearance?  If you say no to the former question, then the followup question is, if a girl always wore sweats or jeans and a t-shirt, would you consider her "feminine?"  Lotsa ppl would say no.  I know it has something to do with outward appearance (but to what extent?).

But femininity obviously includes more than outward appearance.  There are emotional and spiritual components as well, what might they be?  And what does all this mean to me?  If I were to truly embrace my femininity, what would that look like for ME, specifically?  These are the questions I'm mulling over.  Any thoughts?

  • interesting thoughts, mary ann...esp in light of all that society tells us we should do to minimize the diff btwn femininity and masculinity. i feel like if the emotional and spiritual are there, the outward appearance doesn't necessarily need to be present. as long as someone can still tell that you're a girl...and then it all goes back to the motives: why is a person dressing androgynously? because of society's dictates? or why is a person dressing femininely? to flaunt what they have and be seductive?
