  • kinda lost

I’ve been feeling kinda lost for the last few months without my Bible.  I was in so much disbelief for so long that I had really lost it that I was unwilling to get a replacement.  To replace the Bible would be to truly accept and acknowledge that my old friend was gone for good.  I thought, too, that I could go back to using my old, teeny, tiny, torn-up, worn down, paperback Bible — the one I had used for my first few years as a believer.  I had retired that Bible long ago due to the bad shape it was in – and as a result of my worsening eyesight (tiny words).  So going back to that Bible in recent days was not the same.  I haven’t been able to write in it (no room).  I haven’t been able to engage with God in it.  It just feels different, distant, foreign.  Perhaps all of these are a mere projection of my inward state — yet, I’m starting to think that it’s time for a new Bible and a fresh start.  So I’m looking for a personal Bible that is small enough to carry around but has large enough font that I won’t go blind.  It has to have mid-column cross references, enough room to underline and write annotations in the margins, and it has to be either NIV or TNIV.  I’d prefer TNIV, but I don’t think they have those with cross references at this time.  :(   Let me know if you have any leads…

  • I cannot believe there’s a TNIV blogring on xanga. Unfortunately, you’re quite right, there are no center-column cross-referenced TNIVs available at this time. Neither does it seem like Zondervan likely to publish any soon, since it appears they’re trying to keep all the TNIVs on the same type-set, so all the versions will have the same page numbering. You can get the Zondervan TNIV Study Bible, which has side-column cross-references and comes in a “personal size.”

What about getting a Bible with either single-column text and wider margins, or else dual-column text with wider margins on both sides? Then you could not only take notes, but also jot down your own cross-references.
